Camp Mystic: 27 Dead, No Evacuation Plan, No Excuse, And They Want To Reopen?

Tuesday, April 14, 2026. Twenty-seven girls and counselors lost their lives at Camp Mystic on July 4, 2025. One eight-year-old girl’s body has still never been found. And the camp is fighting in court — right now — for the right to reopen this summer.

Warnings Were Issued — And Ignored

Camp Mystic director Edward Eastland testified he did not see flood warnings from the National Weather Service or the state’s emergency management department before the storm hit. He acknowledged he was asleep at the time and did not see the warning on his phone.  — (CNN). The warnings existed. The danger was documented. The children were unprotected.

The Answer That Shook an Entire Courtroom

Attorney Christina Yarnell told camp director Mary Liz Eastland directly: “You knew the property. You knew the flood lines. You knew access points. Your children knew them. These were first-year campers. Cile (the missing girl) needed your help, and you abandoned her, didn’t you?” Mary Liz Eastland replied, “Yes.”  Can you imagine? A confession that will echo in the ears of every grieving parent forever.

The Command That Killed 25 Children

Attorney Brad Beckworth confronted Eastland: “What you had written down was, ‘Stay in your cabins.’ That was a command that killed 27 children, didn’t it?”  No evacuation plan. No alarm sounded. No urgency — until it was too late.

God’s Word on This Is Unmistakable

“Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, but whoever causes one of these little to stumble, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.” (Matthew 18:5-6)

When you accept the care of a child, you accept the full weight of that sacred responsibility. Camp Mystic failed catastrophically.

My heart breaks for every family who lost a precious child at Camp Mystic. No parent should ever have to endure this kind of loss — especially when it was preventable. Justice is not optional here. Contact the Texas Department of State Health Services and demand Camp Mystic’s license be permanently revoked. Share this story. Make noise.
