Why Christians Should Visit Church Weekly (But Probably Don’t)

For many Christians, attending church on Sundays is an important part of their spiritual journey. But let’s be honest—life happens. Work, health issues, soccer games, Netflix marathons, or simply the warm embrace of a cozy bed can sometimes make the idea of getting up early for church feel less appealing than it should.

With the growth of social media, many churches now offer online services. While this can be a great alternative for those who genuinely can’t attend in person, it also means some people get their “church fix” without ever leaving the comfort of their homes. For some, the convenience of online services has replaced the need to physically gather in a community.

Yet, the Bible is clear about the importance of gathering as a community.

“Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:25 ESV)

So, skipping church isn’t just a modern struggle—even in the early church, some had already fallen into the habit of missing corporate worship! But hey, no judgment here… life gets busy.

The early Christians, however, were devoted to meeting regularly.

“Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts…praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people.” (Acts 2:46-47 ESV)

Imagine that—every day! If the apostles could show up daily, surely we can handle weekly services. And let’s be honest, an hour of church isn’t much compared to the time spent binge-watching a favorite TV show (unless it’s one of those endless Netflix series, but that’s a whole other issue).

Church isn’t just about being in a tent or a building; it’s about community and worship.

“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20 ESV)

So, while you might be tempted to skip because you “can worship anywhere,” Scripture shows there’s something uniquely powerful about gathering together as a church family. It’s not just about what we receive—it’s about what we contribute to the body of Christ.Next Sunday, set that alarm and trade in the snooze button for some fellowship. Your spirit—and your church family—will thank you!
