When the Blood Cries Louder Than the Church

ZANGON KATAF, Nigeria (April 14, 2025) —Fifty-four Christians. Slaughtered. Hacked to death just for gathering on Palm Sunday. And the major Western media can’t find the time to write about it.

Persecution.org reports that Muslim Fulani extremists stormed a Christian-populated village in Nigeria, ambushing worshipers as they walked home from church. “They came in hundreds,” one survivor said. “They started shooting sporadically… they slaughtered many.”

Let that word settle in: slaughtered.

And this isn’t some tragic anomaly—it’s a well-documented pattern of pure evil. From December 2023 to February 2024, over 1,300 people were killed in Plateau State alone—more than 500 women and 260 children. Nearly 30,000 displaced. According to the International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law, 8,222 Christians were murdered across Nigeria last year alone.

That’s not conflict. That’s not random violence. That’s a slow-motion genocide—and the West barely blinks.

The Fulani militants—well-armed, well-funded, and radicalized by Islamic jihad—aren’t hiding their intentions. And the Nigerian government? Either unwilling or complicit. As ICC notes, “the government’s silence in the face of repeated massacres is itself a form of complicity.”

So where is the global Church? Where is the righteous outrage? Where are the humanitarian airlifts, the fundraising concerts, the celebrity hashtags?

Is Christian blood in Nigeria less sacred than blood spilled in Ukraine or Gaza?

“They burnt down more than 300 houses,” ICC adds. Survivors are hiding in forests. Hungry. Barefoot. Forgotten. And far too many in the West are still snoozing through sermons and scrolling past headlines.

This is what it means to stumble to the slaughter while the body of Christ polishes its image and fine-tunes the Sunday production. When is enough enough? When will the Church finally speak—and send help?

“If you say, ‘Behold, we did not know this,’ does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who keeps watch over your soul know it, and will he not repay man according to his work?” [or lack thereof?]
