The Spirit Behind Wokeness: Jezebel Rebranded

In a recent Blaze article, author Helen Andrews argued that “wokeness is feminization” — not merely politics, but a moral shift born from the “Great Feminization” of our institutions (TheBlaze.com). She points out that as women have overtaken men in colleges and leadership, the culture has adopted “traits associated with femininity: empathy over rationality, safety over risk, and cohesion over competition.”

Let’s bring this into the light of the Word of God — this is clearly the Jezebel spirit at work. The same spirit that manipulated King Ahab continues to manipulate our culture today, more than ever before. “Cancel culture,” Andrews writes, “is not open combat but covert ostracism — a feminine form of social control.” (TheBlaze.com)

That’s exactly what we see: emotional dominance replacing spiritual order.

The Bible says, “God is not the author of confusion, but of peace” (1 Corinthians 14:33). Yet our homes, schools, and even churches are in chaos because we’ve traded God’s order for cultural empowerment. From the Garden of Eden until now, Satan’s plan has never changed. Eve told Adam to eat the fruit, and Adam blamed Eve. That pattern of disorder still echoes today.

The Jezebel Spirit in Today’s “Woke” Woman

The Jezebel spirit in today’s culture hides behind empowerment, activism, and “self-love.” She calls herself “woke,” but she’s really rebellious, manipulative, and unsubmitted to God’s authority. This spirit thrives where there is disorder — where emotion replaces truth, and pride replaces humility.

She speaks the language of “justice,” but her real agenda is control. She demands power, not partnership; influence, not obedience. Like the Jezebel of Scripture, she undermines godly leadership, despises male headship, and uses shame or social pressure to silence truth.

She doesn’t tear down idols — she builds new ones: identity, gender, power, and self — and calls it freedom.

The Bible shows Jezebel as charming yet destructive — a woman who used her position to manipulate kings, silence prophets, and pervert worship (1 Kings 18–21). Today, that same spirit fuels movements that reject God’s order, glorify rebellion, and label biblical authority as oppression.

Being “strong” isn’t domination. God didn’t create woman to be “strong” in the world’s way. He calls her to possess “a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in His sight” (1 Peter 3:4). That doesn’t make her a “mouse on a couch” — it makes her an obedient woman under her husband’s authority. And when he is under God’s authority, there is peace, order, blessing, and wonder-working power. Why would we desire anything else?

God is a God of order (1 Corinthians 14:40). Until we restore that divine alignment, this culture will continue worshiping Jezebel — dressed in modern clothes, but driven by the same ancient rebellion.
