The Bottom Line—The Iran War Was Inevitable, Biblically Justified, And Long Overdue

Israel and the United States finally confronted a regime built on terror, repression, and genocide-level violence

The war now dominating headlines did not suddenly appear. Iran’s rulers have been pursuing it for decades and they finally got their way. The Islamic Republic has funded terror networks across the Middle East and Western World, openly threatened Israel’s destruction and massacred thousands of Israeli citizens (remember October 7). They have also brutally crushed dissent at home with massacres, public executions, and torturous imprisonments of many thousands of peaceful protestors—all ramping up in recent months. Sources report as many as 32,000 executed and 50,000 imprisoned in recent months alone. It didn’t require courage to see the inevitability of where all this was heading, but that’s what it took to bring change.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned about this genocidal danger for years, while many Western leaders, including Obama and Biden, preferred diplomatic appeasement and globalist delay. President Donald Trump took a different view. Israel was never going to act alone in confronting a regime of this scale, and Trump’s support signaled that the era of pretending Iran’s rulers could be negotiated into moderation was over. As The Economist observed in its analysis of Netanyahu’s strategy, Israel has long viewed the Iranian regime as an existential threat that diplomacy alone could never resolve. So, thanks to the Trump administration, here we are.

Biblical Grounds for Confronting Evil With Force

The moral framework for confronting regimes built on violence is not complicated. Scripture repeatedly affirms the responsibility of governments to restrain evil and protect innocent life. The apostle Paul wrote that governing authorities are appointed to punish wrongdoing and defend those under their care:

“For he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain.” (Romans 13:4).

When a government openly funds terrorism, threatens genocide, and persecutes believers, the responsibility to confront that evil becomes unavoidable. The Bible also commands leaders to defend the innocent:

“Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter.” (Proverbs 24:11).

Iran’s regime has spent decades sponsoring proxy militias, arming terrorist groups and lone wolves committed to Israel’s destruction, and persecuting Christians everywhere—including inside its own borders. From a biblical perspective, confronting that kind of aggression is not reckless but responsible.

The Apocalyptic Ideology Behind Iran’s Strategy

Iran’s leadership is not guided solely by geopolitical dominance. Its worldview is heavily shaped by Mahdism, a Shiite belief centered on the return of the Mahdi—an Islamic messianic figure expected to appear during a period of global chaos and war. As noted in a report by the Middle East Forum, Iran’s ideological doctrine envisions a final violent global conflict preceding the Mahdi’s return and the establishment of worldwide Islamic rule.

In this worldview, instability is not a problem to avoid, but the goal. Some interpretations frame conflict and upheaval as events that prepare the world for the Mahdi’s appearance, and it’s now clear that the current Iranian regime was fully bought in. A regime influenced by apocalyptic expectations cannot be analyzed the same way as a conventional government. The Mahdi doctrine promoted by Iran’s clerical leadership reflects exactly that kind of false messianic expectation.

The Reckoning Tyrants Eventually Face

Regimes built on violence often believe their power will last forever. History tells a different story. The prophet Nahum warned ancient empires that believed their brutality would never face judgment:

“The LORD is a jealous and avenging God; the LORD is avenging and wrathful; the LORD takes vengeance on his adversaries and keeps wrath for his enemies.” (Nahum 1:2).

Tyrants always assume they are untouchable. Until the day they discover that they are not. Pray for justice, pray for the innocent, and pray the Lord send His ministering angels to protect us all.
