Pride Shouts, But Truth Must Roar: A Christian Call to Speak Up and Out in Love

June is here, and once again, Pride Month fills the streets with loud, colorful, unapologetic celebrations. But before we rush to condemn or point fingers, let’s take a hard look inward. One article claimed, “Pride Month stole innocence, humility, and the rainbow.” (TheBlaze)—but I disagree. The LGBTQ community didn’t steal anything from us. We, the Church, gave it away.

We surrendered cultural influence when we stopped standing in truth and love. We handed over the rainbow when we forgot to share its true covenant meaning. And worst of all, we gave ourselves permission to hate and ostracize a group of people living in sin—rather than doing the hard work of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. That division? That judgment? That was the enemy’s goal all along. And we played right into it.

And before we Christians puff ourselves up on holy high horses, let’s remember: the Bible clearly says we are no better. The Apostle Paul puts us all in our place in 1 Corinthians 6:11—

“Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.”

Let that sink in: Such were some of you. Did you catch that? My sin, your sin, is no better than their sin.

The only difference between me and anyone celebrating Pride Month is Jesus. That’s it. Not my self-control, not my morals, not my Bible knowledge. Just Jesus.

That truth alone should humble every single one of us.

“It’s time to be loud in love. Not loud in anger or loud in pride, but loud in love.” (TheBlaze)

Jesus said in Luke 5:31, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.”

So what are we doing? Hiding in church pews? Judging from a distance? No.

We need to be in the streets, in the comments, in the lives of these souls—with love, yes, but also with life-changing truth.

This culture doesn’t need more Christian silence. It needs Christians who reflect Jesus—firm, holy, and merciful. The LGBTQ community isn’t our enemy—they are our mission. They’re not hopeless—they’re lost. And if we truly believe we’ve been born again, then we know exactly what rescue looks like: grace and truth.

Pastor Greg Locke says two things that, in my opinion, should be the mission of every Big “C” Church that claims to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ: “Acceptance and approval are two very different things. We can accept who you are and stand against what you do,” and “You can come as you are, but we love you too much to let you stay that way.”

Can I get an amen?

That’s a wake-up call for us all. We don’t need to “take back” the rainbow. We need to point people back to the God who made it—not through pride of our own, but through humility that says, “I was messed up too—and Jesus changed everything.”

If we boast, we boast in Christ alone (2 Corinthians 10:17). Because it is His blood, His mercy, and His truth that saves.

So let’s speak boldly. Let’s love radically.

Let’s be Jesus to the sick—because He was Jesus to us first.
