In a move long overdue, NBC News has eliminated teams dedicated to covering gay- and race-focused stories, including NBC BLK, NBC Asian America, NBC Latino, and NBC OUT. Another alleged inside source said the cuts were not meant to target the diversity teams. The network claims this was a cost-cutting effort, intended to “streamline its editorial efforts.” (source) Whether its decision is based on budget or mounting pressure, the truth emerges — we are witnessing a retreat from identity politics. It’s about time.
NBC’s own prior coverage anticipated this moment: “Viewers brace for less coverage of gay rodeos and LGBTQ art exhibits.” (source) For years, we’ve seen lavish funding for rainbow lobbying — masquerading as news. This was not news. It was indoctrination — and it’s ending now.
From my vantage, as a woman who values truth and moral clarity, this is cause for jubilation. The Bible tells us: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind” (Romans 12:2, ESV). We are not to shape ourselves to the culture but to lead by God’s standards of righteousness and justice — even toward the LGBTQ+ community. As Christians, we are not rejecting the person in sin; we are rejecting the sin within the person. And that means rejecting the elevation of identity sin altogether. We all know God created man and woman — nothing else. Any other belief is deception and confusion.
The days of indulging in the lie that LGBTQ+ identities deserve special platforms over the voiceless — no more than homeless people deserve to be ignored — are over. This shift at NBC is an opportunity to re-center journalism on truth, not identities. And that’s a big step forward.
