Hamas Ignores Terms of ‘Peace’ Deal—Netanyahu Orders Immediate Strikes

Diplomats promised peace. Rag-tag Hamas delivered betrayal.

A multi-state agreement meant to end the war between Gaza and Israel is fracturing before it ever truly began. On October 28, 2025, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the Israel Defense Forces to launch “immediate and powerful strikes” after Hamas fired on Israeli troops in southern Gaza and returned the remains of a hostage previously recovered in 2023 (Financial Times).

Under the U.S.-brokered peace deal, Hamas was required to hand over the remains of all slain hostages and cease all attacks in exchange for Israel’s release of thousands of Palestinian prisoners (AP News). Instead, dozens of bodies remain unrecovered. Israel says Hamas is deliberately delaying; Hamas denies the accusation (Financial Times).

Why Peace Will Always Be Short-lived

Because the deal presumes trust where Hamas has none, most have assumed this day was coming. The group’s record of deceit, hostage abuse, and propaganda proves that peace built on such sand cannot stand. Even Netanyahu has said Israel would never end the conflict until Hamas is “defeated and disarmed” (PBS NewsHour). The mostly dismantled terror organization is unlikely to disarm, so this was to be expected. We can only hope they eventually fully surrender, or this cycle will surely continue as it always has.

As Christians, we are commanded to “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem!” (Psalm 122:6) Yet the Bible also tells us that lasting peace in Israel will never come through treaties or politics—it will only endure when Jesus returns, and that will produce a very different world with an Israel that gets born again in Christ. Until then, vigilance and prayer must walk hand-in-hand.

Pray for Jerusalem. Pray for mercy over the innocent. And remember: every false peace reminds us that true peace will only reign when the Prince of Peace returns.
