Backstreet Boys’ son, Baylee Thomas Wylee Littrell, leads the American Idol audience in worship as he sings “Hey Jesus” live on national television.
Baylee is the son of Backstreet Boys’ lead singer, Brian Littrell, who performed during the opening arena shows for the Backstreet Boys’ world tours as a young boy. By the age of 17, he released his debut album, 770-Country, via BriLeigh Records. It was his father who taught him about sports, music, life, and even about having faith in God.
When the 22-year-old country singer appeared at this season’s American Idol auditions, he seized the opportunity to share his faith with the world. He sang a soulful worship song titled “Waiting On Myself to Die,” which he had originally written. With that heartfelt performance, he impressed the judges, who granted him a golden ticket to Hollywood.
On April 1, during the second round of the competition, he surprised everyone with yet another original worship song. His grandmother’s passing deeply inspired the song in 2022. Losing her tested Baylee’s faith.
“I never expected to lose her, so when I did, I questioned everything and pushed away my faith. I thought I would never find it again,” he shared in an interview.
Writing the song “Hey Jesus” helped him rediscover his faith in God.
“Hey Jesus, I broke my wings again, could you help me up one last time, old friend? Cause I surrender everything to You,” Baylee sang sincerely.
As he worshiped the Lord, the audience stood up one by one, with some even raising their hands in surrender to Jesus. Baylee powerfully led people in worship live on national television!
It was a memorable moment that reminded us that no matter what we encounter in life, we will always have Jesus with us to help us stand back up whenever we fall.
