God Doesn’t Waste Pain — He Perfects Through It

In a recent editorial article, Pastor Adam Dooley shared the testimony of his youngest son’s battle with leukemia. Dooley said the hardest question he had to face was when his son looked up through a medical mask and asked, “Why did God make me sick, Daddy?” (Christian Post) The question wasn’t just a child’s cry. It was every believer’s question in the dark. Why would a loving God allow a child to suffer? Why would a loving God allow such suffering to an innocent child? Why? Why? Why? Come on — we’ve all been there, and if you haven’t, you will.

Pain Is Not Punishment — It Is Purpose

God is not a cosmic punisher. He is a Master Artist sculpting souls — and yes, sometimes through fire. Romans 8:28 declares that God works all things — including leukemia, loss, and devastation — all things together for his good, your good,  my good and those called according to His purpose. Dooley discovered this firsthand. Despite God’s willingness to mold and teach his family through the trial, it was not primarily about the Dooley family—God is always writing a bigger story than we can see.

Step Into Your Sacred Post

The crisis revealed something the comfortable life conceals: Dooley writes that teaching his children to love and trust God at all times was his responsibility — a sacred duty he could not delegate —  A call on every born again believer’s life. We are not here for our own selfish desires. We are here to bring glory to a Holy God at all times. The Apostle Peter makes it plain — “Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed” (1 Peter 4:12-13). Suffering is not a detour from God’s plan. It is the plan — and it always ends in His glory no matter the outcome.

You Are a Supporting Character in God’s Story

This is the truth that cuts deepest. Your suffering may not be about you at all. Like Job, you may be God’s exhibit before heaven and earth. Sometimes we are mere background characters in a much bigger story — our lives are living testimonies of the beauty and worthiness of our great God — Psalm 34:18 assures us God is near the brokenhearted — but His nearness carries a purpose beyond our comfort.

Your Move, God’s Waiting

It’s okay to ask God why, but it’s not okay to demand an explanation. Open your Bible. Surrender your pain and let God use your story for His glory — because no matter the end, God wins.
