President Donald Trump has declared a nationwide “war on fraud,” appointing Vice President J.D. Vance to serve as its czar. The move follows Minnesota’s staggering $250 million Feeding Our Future scandal—the Somali-American organization at the epicenter of this massive crime—easily one of the largest fraud schemes in American history.

The Scheme

Federal prosecutors allege that leaders tied to the nonprofit Feeding Our Future exploited pandemic child nutrition programs, fabricating meal counts and routing taxpayer dollars through dozens of shell sites that never legitimately served the numbers claimed. According to AP News, funds intended to feed low-income children were instead diverted into luxury homes, high-end vehicles, commercial real estate investments, and lavish personal spending (AP News).

In addition to Feeding Our Future itself, other entities named in indictments were site operators, including Safari Restaurant, accused of claiming thousands of meals per day that prosecutors say were never served. Investigators described a tightly coordinated network that manipulated loosened pandemic oversight rules to move extraordinary sums of federal money. This could not have happened without cover from government officials on the ground in Minnesota and specifically in Minneapolis, and Vice President Vance has accepted the challenge to root them out and bring all to justice.

Rep. Ilan Omar and The District at the Center

The epicenter of the scandal sits inside Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District—represented by Somali-American Congressional Rep. Ilhan Omar. The majority of charged activity occurred in the Minneapolis communities she represents. She has not been charged or formally accused, but with one of the largest fraud schemes in modern U.S. history unfolding within her district—led by her Somali neighbors and support groups—that reality alone raises legitimate questions about oversight, awareness, and accountability. Vance’s task force should set the record straight.
