A violent disruption of worship at Cities Church in St. Paul, Minnesota, has reignited urgent concerns about religious liberty in America. On January 18, radical protesters stormed a Sunday service, terrorizing families and desecrating a sacred space—an act the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) has condemned as a direct assault on religious freedom.
NRB President and CEO Troy A. Miller called the incident “an outrageous assault on a house of God” and warned it should be “a wake-up call for every American who values freedom.” Scripture affirms this truth: “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty” (2 Corinthians 3:17). When a church is attacked, liberty itself is under siege.
According to NRB, the congregation was targeted simply because a pastor allegedly holds a bi-vocational role in public service. Miller rightly labeled this “bigotry and a blatant attack on religious liberty.” This was a brazen invasion. Imagine worshippers gathered in prayer or worship when agitators barge through the doors, shouting, disrupting, and instilling fear in families and children—an intentional act designed to shock, threaten, and silence believers inside their own sanctuary.
NRB praised the Department of Justice for launching a civil rights investigation, emphasizing that federal law exists to protect houses of worship from mob aggression and harassment.
Romans 13 reminds us that governing authorities are tasked with restraining evil—and they must act decisively.
On a personal note, we are proud members of NRB—but even if we weren’t, we would still stand with this message. Christians in America are being targeted, silenced, and pressured to retreat. That must stop.
The Big C Church must wake up, stand up, and speak boldly about our faith in Jesus Christ. Time is short. Hell is real, and people are hungry for truth.
As Acts 5:29 declares, “We must obey God rather than men.”
