January 2026 — After decades of rising chronic illness and food addiction, federal nutrition guidance is finally shifting focus — and the message couldn’t come at a more critical time. The updated dietary guidelines were released alongside the launch of RealFood.gov, an official government website that opens with a blunt diagnosis: “America is sick.” According to the administration, the goal is to steer Americans back toward whole, nourishing foods as rates of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and diet-related illnesses continue to climb nationwide. For generations, highly processed carbohydrates and sugary foods dominated national dietary guidelines. Now, the emphasis has shifted toward whole foods that support long-term health, with officials urging a return to “protein, dairy, healthy fats, vegetables, and fruits” as the foundation of daily eating. Amen — it’s about time.
Everywhere you look, our culture revolves around food — drive-thrus on every corner, dozens of coffee shops, endless fast-food chains, donuts in office break rooms, and energy drinks in nearly every hand. These choices aren’t just lifestyle habits; they are fueling a major health crisis.
In 2026, we are seeing an outrageous number of people struggling with gluten intolerance, daily heartburn requiring antacids, chronic inflammation, and rising cancer rates like never before — all tied to diets that stray far from how God intended us to eat. This is a sobering reality, and whether we like it or not, you and I are part of it.
God designed food to nourish bodies created in His image: “You are not your own; you were bought with a price” (1 Corinthians 6:19–20). Our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. That means choosing real, wholesome foods — meats, fish, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains — and avoiding what slowly tears us down. Our bodies simply cannot sustain this abuse.
The new year has begun, and with every new year comes a fresh start. We shouldn’t make resolutions we can’t keep. Instead, we need to make a vow before God that this year will be our turning point — leaving unhealthy habits behind and pressing forward toward better choices in every area of our lives, including everything we put in our mouths.
Choosing water instead of flavored drinks, moving our bodies through regular exercise, and eating whole, nourishing foods are not just trends — they are acts of stewardship. Bad food is simply not worth the consequences we reap.
It’s time to take this seriously — for our health, for our families, and for the glory of God.
I’m in. Are you?
