Don’t Despise Tough Seasons—God Is Planting You, Not Punishing You

Life doesn’t always go the way we expect or think it should. Sometimes God allows us to walk through seasons that feel like exile—lonely, confusing, and far from home. But as Jeremiah 24 reminds us, not all exile is punishment. Often, it’s preparation.

In the prophet’s vision, God showed Jeremiah two baskets of figs—one good, one bad. The good figs represented those carried away into Babylonian captivity. The bad figs were the ones who stayed behind in comfort, resisting God’s correction. Strange, isn’t it? The ones who looked like they’d lost everything were actually the ones God called good.

“I will give them a heart to know Me,” God said in Jeremiah 24:7. That’s the heart of this message. The exile wasn’t God’s rejection—it was His redemption. Through displacement, He was renewing their hearts, teaching them to trust again, drawing their hearts back to Him.

Maybe your world feels like Babylon right now. You’ve been uprooted, stretched, or stripped of something you loved. But know this: God hasn’t abandoned you. He’s cultivating something deeper within you. Jesus echoed this truth centuries later: “Every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit” (John 15:2).

In these seasons, remember: God is never far from us. He knows exactly where we are and how long we need to be there. He’s never late. Trust His timing—even when the waiting feels long and the silence heavy. His discipline is never to destroy but to redeem, shaping our hearts for what’s ahead.

Don’t despise the pruning. Don’t curse the exile. The soil may feel foreign, but it’s fertile. God uses discomfort to deepen our roots in Him. Like the good figs, we’re called to surrender—to say, “Yes, Lord, here I am.”

The same God who brought you to it will surely see you through it. Thank You, Jesus!
