The Devil in the Details: The Dangerous Lie is Rising Again

The Devil in the Details

The Antisemitism Awareness Act was designed to protect Jews from hate, but a recent amendment now gives legal cover to the very rhetoric that fueled the Holocaust. Hidden within the bill is a clause allowing the statement, “the Jews killed Jesus,” to be protected under “religious liberty” — a blatant distortion of truth pushed by Senators Bill Cassidy (R-La.), Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), and Roger Marshall (R-Kan.) (Christian Post). This is more than a dangerous oversight—it’s a demonized act that leverages religious language to sow division, perpetuate ancient lies, and to hang that twisted accusation on modern-day Jews.

Twisting the Narrative

Let’s remember the real truth. Jesus was a Jew. His disciples were Jews. His fiercest defenders were Jews. He ministered primarily to Jews in Jewish lands. Of course, many Jewish leaders opposed Him and wanted Him dead and eventually lobbied hard for His execution at the hands Roman soldiers, but it was the Romans who factually killed Jesus at the command of the Roman government, not the Jews. So to broad-stroke the ancient Jewish people as Christ-killers is a vile, manipulative lie from hell, and it’s even more heinous to hang that lie on modern-day Jews. Placing such horrendous guilt and shame on an entire nation of people for the sins of a minority group at a single moment in ancient history is absurdly criminal. Only demonic antisemitism can explain why anyone would place blame on the Jewish people as a group, and the results have been devastating. This evil rhetoric has led to centuries of persecution, culminating in Hitler’s Jewish genocide—a horror that began with words, accusations, and lies—and it continues to undermine the safety of the Jews today. To revive this language in U.S. law is to give new life to old hate, a move as irresponsible as it is sinister.

Jesus Exonerated the Jews

Jesus Himself settled the matter when speaking of His sacrificial life: “No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord” (John 10:18). He prayed for His executioners and heckelers—the Roman soldiers and the minority of Jews who hated him—saying, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing” (Luke 23:34). Jesus understood that His death was part of a divine plan for the redemption of all humanity. Yet these senators—conservatives claiming to know the Bible—are resurrecting the very lies Jesus died to dismantle.

The Real Blame

In truth, the blame for Christ’s death doesn’t rest on any race or group. It rests on all of us. We all killed Jesus. Our sins—not some ethnic scapegoat—nailed Him to that cross. The Bible makes it clear that Jesus died willingly, offering Himself as a sacrifice for the sins of the world. If we’re serious about fighting antisemitism, we must expose and reject such deceptive amendments, not enshrine them into law. To do otherwise is to align ourselves with those who once weaponized the death of Christ to justify the slaughter of His people. Call on your Senators to strike this dangerous clause from their bill and share this article with your friends and family so we can finally protect our Jewish neighbors—in truth.
