In a world-class farewell that drew applause from golf fans everywhere, two-time Masters champion Bernhard Langer quietly shared something far more eternal than his trophies. As reported by Guardian, Langer revealed that his 1985 Masters victory helped lead him to Christ.
“I never mentioned it to the public,” Langer said, “but this tournament actually was very instrumental in me becoming a Christian.”
Langer, who was raised Catholic, always believed he was a Christian. But something happened in 1985, moments after he won the green jacket, that challenged him to look deeper.
In the Butler Cabin interview, he blurted out: “Jesus Christ! You’re not playing that bad yourself!”—a throwaway phrase to most ears, but a use of the Lord’s name in vain to believers, and a slip of the tongue that started Langer on his road to real salvation. A few days later, someone who heard it invited him to a Bible study in Hilton Head, S.C., and that simple invitation brought the momentous spark he needed.
“That was when I learned what it actually means to be a born-again Christian,” Langer said. “What it means to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ—not just to know of Him, but to truly know Him.”
Langer’s transformative journey deepened over time. “Eight years later, I was at a tournament and a guy walked up to me and said, ‘Do you remember what you said back in 1985?’ I had forgotten—but he hadn’t. He said it stuck with him. And then he said, ‘I’ve become a believer, too.’”
So much of today’s world is filled with artificial noise—self-glorification, virtue signaling, and even counterfeit surface-level Christianity. That’s why this quiet, humble testimony from a man who spent four decades under the spotlight is so powerful. No theatrics. No agenda. Just a clear and simple confession: I found Jesus, and He has changed everything ever since.“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes…” (Romans 1:16)
Kathy
I cringe when I hear someone use His name as a cuss or slang. I have been upset recently at Holy being used in phrase’s. His name is Holy, He is the Holy One of God. holy mackerel or holy moly do not honor Him. Yes I was rebuked in my spirit when I said it and it is the same with Lord.
We need to avoid all idle words.
When someone uses G or JC I usually say something random that makes them aware they said it such as : Yep, He is here or something to make them pause.
Just thought I’d share and make people aware.
God Bless
